The Roux Scholarship 2023
Last night, the winner of The Roux Scholarship 2023 was named at an exclusive awards dinner at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park.
Founded in 1984 by Michel Roux with his brother Albert the prestigious competition has changed the lives of hundreds of chefs since its inception in 1983, with its competitors and winners going on to change the landscape of the British dining.
The final cook-off was presided over by this year’s joint Honorary Presidents of Judge, Michel Troisgros and his son César, whose restaurant at Troisgros in the Roannais region of south-east France has held three Michelin stars longer than any other restaurant in the world. They led the panel alongside joint chairmen Alain Roux and Michel Roux Jr, who were joined by Brian Turner CBE, Angela Hartnett OBE, Rachel Humphrey, Sat Bains, André Garrett and Simon Hulstone.
The day consisted of a highly challenging cook-off held at Westminster Kingsway College, followed by the awards dinner ceremony.
We followed and shot all the action during the day, which involved the six finalists preparing their own dish using a variety of ingredients, along the theme of Pâté Chaud de Lotte (hot monkfish pie) – a recipe originally created by the Troisgros family. From this we produced a quick turnaround edit of the action to be played out in the evening’s ceremony.
We then produced the live-stream of the event available via The Roux Scholarship’s YouTube channel. For this we had produced a series of video inserts, which included a roundup of the regional finals and the competition so far, the history of the competition, an introduction to the six finalists, and the honorary judges in a film shot at Troisgros in France. The whole ceremony is still available to watch on YouTube.
The competition was won by April Lily Partridge from two Michelin starred restaurant, The Ledbury. We produced a social media video of her winning moment which has gone live today:
